Our History

Hammersby is a family run business. The founders hail from Denmark, and bring deep knowledge and appreciation for mid century modern design. For over 2 decades, we have bought and sold Scandinavian, European and American art, furniture and other design objects in auctions across Europe and North America. We founded Hammersby as a realization of a dream years in the making – create a compelling online marketplace for beautiful design from a period spanning the early 20th century to today, combined with the convenience and reliability of a traditional brick and mortar retail location.

Our Promise

At Hammersby, we have assembled a collection of unique and hard-to-find vintage 20th century modern furniture, home decor and art from world renown designers and artists. All of our pieces are authentic vintage pieces from Scandinavia, Europe and North America. Our passion and obsession for beautiful and functional design, enables us to bring you truly unique pieces.

When you purchase vintage furniture from us, you can rest assured that you are investing in a product with no hidden flaws and a 100% original and genuine product. We go to great lengths to provide you with accurate information regarding the items that we sell. We conduct thorough research regarding the item’s designer, manufacturer, date of design/production, country of origin and dimensions.

Vintage furniture has typically been used and thus exhibits some wear. Where necessary, we have refinished and re-upholstered items that have been in use for many years. We try to describe pieces as accurately as possible and in general, all that we offer is in good to excellent/mint condition. We welcome and encourage you to ask for a detailed condition report and pictures to help with your purchase decision. In addition, you are always welcome to visit us and personally inspect the item at our showroom in Bryn Mawr, PA, located in the western suburbs of Philadelphia.

We are continuously looking for new unique and high-quality items to add to our offering. If you have items that you would like us to sell for you, please do not hesitate to contact us. We would be more than happy to provide you with a free appraisal. If you are looking for something specific to buy and cannot find it in our current inventory, please do not hesitate to contact us and we can try and find it for you.
